Challenge
PET is often regarded as an easy-to-recycle material. However, there are some specific challenges in the recycling process, including significant variations in mechanical properties such as thickness, dampness and density, as well as impurities through adhesives or printed labels. In addition, the polarity of the material makes potential recontamination more likely. Furthermore, the brittleness of the material during hot washing can often lead to excessive formation of fine particles.
Solution
Effective cleaning of PET flakes requires an innovative solution that enables cold washing and is flexible enough to accommodate different material flows. HydroCleaner from HydroDyn meets these requirements with specific cleaning tools. Thanks to the hydrodynamic cleaning principle, adhesives and labels are removed effectively without producing any fine particles. The AeroSeparator ensures that printed labels are removed quickly and that no inks end up in the process water. The integrated thermal booster drying also reduces the mechanical stress on the PET flakes, which minimises the development of fine particles.
